  • File restored from quarantine not accessible after restoration

After false detection and auto-treatment action file has been moved to quarantine. After that I have successfully restored file. Although exception for this file was automatically added to exception list I'm still unable to access (open) restored file in the text editor because ZoneAlarm is blocking the access.

    Is this expected behavior?

ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall version: 15.0.653.17211
    Vsmon version: 15.0.653.17211
    Driver version: 15.1.29.17237
    Antivirus engine version: 8.7.0.69
Antivirus signature DAT file version: 1249987200

Hi and welcome to the ZA user forum!

have you tried to reboot the PC? And from where you try to access the file?
Which kind of error is displayed when you try to access the file? Are you sure it ZA locking the file?

    Thanks,
    Fax

Files are not even restored. And exceptions disappear from the list of exceptions. What a mess.

I'm using the latest version available here: 15.1.501.17249
      http://www.zonealarm.com/software/re...15.1.501.17249

      Fresh installation

Sorry all users here and no ZA technical support is available for users of the free version.

I can't replicate the issue here. Can you explain exactly the steps to reproduce it with links so I can try, confirm and report it?

          Thank you,
          Fax

Well, you need a "malicious" file. One of my quarantined files was unlocker 1.9.2. Here's a link: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...Unlocker.shtml

You should scan it, ZA will put it in quarantine. Then try to restore.

Uuuhm, tried it both 32 and 64bit versions and ZA does not detect any threat. So, can't reproduce here. Sorry. Fax

Re: File restored from quarantine not accessible after restoration

Something to keep in mind: you need to check, before restoring from quarantine, the exact path where the file is as indicated in the -path- column of ZA quarantine window.

May be the file is not where you expect to be (e.g. not in the download folder but in the temporary folder of the browser or the like).

                Thanks,

Re: File restored from quarantine not accessible after restoration

Fax has a good point. What you think is in quarantine may not be.

The web monitor is tied to AV so when it detects a suspicious site you get a popup just like AV and its says its quarantined.

But it not quarantining anything. Just preventing you from accessing the website.

The only way to tell the difference is look at the path like Fax mentioned.
If it shows a URL then its not a file and nothing was quarantined. You were just blocked from access to the URL.
